Why did I get a message about changing my SIM?

  • Your current SIM card is not compatible with our network enhancements and must be replaced to avoid service interruptions.

What to do

Stop by a storecontact us, or contact T-Mobile Prepaid for a replacement SIM. For your security, the account holder or an authorized user must make the request. Get help activating or installing a SIM.

You'll also want to make sure your LTE/VoLTE settings are turned on and your software is up to date. Get steps!

Apple

 
Steps for Apple software update or LTE/VoLTE settings
Setting Steps
LTE
  1. From the Home screen, choose Settings Cellular or Cellular Data.
  2. If you have an iPhone with an eSIM, select the line you're making changes to.
  3. Select Cellular Data Options, then choose the Enable LTE toggle.
  4. If the toggles don't display, select Voice & Data or Data and choose LTE.
VoLTE
  1. From any Home screen, choose Settings Cellular or Cellular Data > Cellular Data Options.
  2. If you have an iPhone with an eSIM, select the line you're making changes to.
  3. Select Enable LTE and choose Voice & Data
Software Update
  1. From the Home Screen, choose Settings > General > Software Update.
  2. If an update is available, select to download and install.
 

Samsung

 
Steps for Samsung software update or LTE/VoLTE settings
Setting Steps
LTE
  1. Open the Settings app and choose Mobile Networks. If it's not there, select Connections first.
  2. Select Network Mode and choose an option that says LTE.
VoLTE
  1. Open the Settings app and choose Connections > Mobile networks.
  2. Slide the VoLTE calls switch to the ON or OFF position.
  3. If it's not there open the Phone app, press the Menu icon with three dots, and check in Settings.
Software Update
  1. From the Home screen, choose Settings > Software update > Download and install.
  2. Select OK > Start. When the restart message appears, choose OK.
  3. Repeat these steps until the device shows you have the latest software version.
 

LG

 
Steps for LG software update or LTE/VoLTE settings
Setting Steps
LTE
  1. From your apps list, choose Settings Network > Mobile networks.
  2. Select Network mode and choose an option that says LTE.
VoLTE
  1. From any home screen, select Phone.
  2. Choose Menu Call settings.
  3. Select the VoLTE switch to turn it on or off.
Software Update
  1. From the Home screen, choose Settings > System Update center.
  2. Select System updateCheck for update.
  3. Follow the on-screen prompts to download and install the latest software update.
  4. Repeat these steps until the device shows you have the latest software version.
 

OnePlus

 
Steps for OnePlus software update or LTE/VoLTE settings
Setting Steps
LTE
  1. From the Home screen, swipe up, then choose Settings.
  2. Select Wi-Fi & internet > SIM & network > Preferred network type.
  3. Choose an option that says LTE.
VoLTE

VoLTE is always enabled when available

Software Update
  1. From the Home screen, swipe up, then choose Settings.
  2. Select System > System update > Check for update.
  3. Follow the onscreen prompts to update to the latest software.
  4. Repeat these steps until the device shows you have the latest software version.
